Dog-friendly City Getaways – Looking for the perfect dog-friendly vacation? Here are the best cities in Europe to take everyone’s favorite member on an adventure.
Since the lockdown, dog ownership has increased by a staggering 18 percent. Having a four-legged friend to protect your home while keeping you inside indefinitely is a huge boost to people’s mental and physical health.
Dog-friendly City Getaways
Now that the journey is unfolding, many of us cannot bear the thought of leaving it. This new study analyzes cities around the world based on several factors to determine where you can find the most dog-friendly destinations.
Pet Friendly Vacation Spots Across America That Your Dog Will Love
A study by Good Trip Clothing looked at 50 popular city break destinations across Europe and ranked them as follows:
Despite having more dog-friendly hotels than any other city in Europe (596 to be exact), Rome only came in 10th place, with an average climate of 21 degrees and the subsequent risk of sweaty paws dragging its overall score down.
Vienna also earned a place in the top 10 thanks to its dog-friendly hotels and green spaces.
As Poland’s second largest destination in the top 10, Warsaw’s slightly cooler temperatures and large number of bread restaurants make it a strong contender for your dogs.
Best Dog Friendly Hotels In Scotland 2023: Where To Stay With Pets On A Scottish Holiday
For Poland, Krakow is on the list with 144 dog-friendly hotels, 104 restaurants and a climate as cool as Warsaw.
Is it a coincidence that the Hamburg capital of the world is number 6? We don’t think so. Although there are only 51 dog-friendly restaurants in the city – relatively low compared to the rest of the top 10 – how could you deny your pooch a taste of the popular cuisine from Germany?
In the top 10 with the lowest average temperature and a total of 260 parks, Moscow is in 5th place. It’s worth packing your dog’s coat if you plan to visit the Russian capital in winter.
Italy’s fashion capital is second only to Rome for dog-friendly restaurants, with 295 places welcoming our furry friends inside. It is also the second warmest in Rome, with an average of 18 degrees throughout the year.
Dog Friendly Holidays France
Prague is ranked third for high performance and easy access from the rest of Europe, with an average flight time of two hours.
Berlin is in second place with 211 points. Its low temperature makes it ideal for stopping.
The French capital came top dog with 216 points, thanks to 351 dog-friendly hotels, 184 dog-friendly restaurants and easy travel options.

Top 10 Dog Friendly Destinations And Accommodation Guides
With late spring on the horizon, families across the UK are searching for the perfect holiday destination. In the last decade, there has been a 19% increase in families choosing to travel with a four-legged friend, with more than half of pet owners choosing to bring dogs, cats and even rabbits. Shared adventures, whether walking along picturesque beaches or exploring lively cities, offer many opportunities to create special memories, fight loneliness and strengthen the bond between pet and owner.
However, finding pet-friendly accommodation can be a daunting task, especially when booking a city break. With this in mind, researchers at The Kennel Store have compiled a ranking of the UK’s best cities for pet-friendly accommodation. From cozy guest houses in Perth to underground apartments in Carlisle, make your next holiday perfect with our handy guide!
Perth, a charming city with a rich heritage, is a fantastic choice of destination for those planning to travel with a canine companion. Located on the banks of the River Tay, Perth offers a fascinating mix of cultural attractions, scenic views and pet-friendly places. With an abundance of riverside walks and picturesque parks, Perth seamlessly blends bustling city life with natural beauty.
Perth has a reputation for being pet-friendly – and especially for dogs. Most pubs and cafes welcome dogs, as do some high-end establishments. Known for their traditional cream tea, Brew & Chew offers a separate dog menu with puppies, sausages and cappuccinos! For a delicious evening, check out the Glover Arms. Craft beer bar and restaurant BrewDog, meanwhile, is holding doggie paws, supplying party hats and doggy ice cream to pooches hoping to celebrate their birthday in style!

Scone Castle, a stunning site with over 1,000 years of history, allows dogs on its sprawling grounds as long as they are well behaved and on a lead. For beer lovers, there’s Cullach Brewing, Perth’s only independent taproom that’s always been dog-friendly.
Located along the rugged Welsh coast, St Davids is something of a hidden gem. With its medieval charm, stunning architecture and peaceful surroundings, this picturesque place is the smallest town in Britain. Take your four-legged friend on an adventure through the winding streets and ancient ruins, stopping for a locally sourced meal at one of the city’s independent cafes.
And dogs are welcome on the boat trips around Ramsay Island. Opt for a wildlife tour and see seals, dolphins, peregrines and herons. Dogs are also allowed in the grounds of St David’s Cathedral, arguably the most important religious monument in Wales.
Many restaurants and bars in St Davids proudly feature dogs. If you want pizza, reserve a table at Grain, which offers local craft beer, antipasti and dough balls. For something a little different, head a little further afield to the harbor village of Solva, just 3 miles away. Mamgu Welshcakes is a firm favorite with locals and visitors, serving traditional Welsh dishes in a variety of ways. Dogs are allowed in the cafe.
A Dog Friendly Getaway In South West England
Carlisle, a historic city in Cumbria, offers a network of beautiful parks, scenic trails and green spaces that provide plenty of opportunities for dog walking and other outdoor activities. Bitts Park, located next to the River Eden, combines extensive lawns with riverside paths and is a great place for a riverside walk. Steeped in culture, Carlisle is an attractive destination for history buffs and animal lovers.
Take a walk around Carlisle Castle – where well-behaved dogs are welcome – and experience nine centuries of fascinating heritage. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed in Carlisle Cathedral, but they can enjoy a walk.
If you’re feeling peckish, check out the Queen Inn in Great Corby or the Howard Arms on Lowther Street. With carefully crafted menus, fresh food and plenty of local produce, these traditional pubs are favorites with locals and visitors to the area. For something special, book a table at the Pentonbridge Inn, which has a Michelin star and three AA rosettes. This fine dining establishment sources its fresh produce from Netherby Hall’s walled garden.
When traveling with a pet, thorough research is absolutely essential. We recommend calling or emailing before making a reservation. Some hotels and other accommodations may have restrictions on the size, type, and number of pets.
Pet Friendly Getaway Near Me: How To Find Your Perfect Spot
If this is your pet’s first trip, consider staying close to home. When it comes to choosing your travel method, be sure to consider the length of the trip, the costs and how comfortable the trip will be for your four-legged friend. Traveling can be traumatic for dogs. We recommend investing in a high quality portable dog crate or carrier. Pet travel agencies like Pets Abroad UK can rely on expert advice on traveling with a pet.
For peace of mind, it’s a smart idea to visit the vet before traveling with your pet, even if you’re just traveling locally. Make sure vaccinations and worming treatments are up to date. If your dog is not microchipped, this must be done before departure. Planning for an emergency away from home is key, no matter how unlikely. Vacationing together is a popular part of families and groups of friends, whether it’s a long distance, a weekend city break or time spent on the beach.
But there is often one important member who can be left behind during the journey: the four-legged friend in your life. However, there is no need to leave your dog with a friend or in a crate when planning your next break in the UK. They can accompany you on walks, bike rides, city tours and even boat trips when you are away, making for a pleasant and memorable vacation without leaving your home.
There are many dog-friendly destinations in the UK, as well as pet-friendly accommodation, from seaside hotels to log cabins and cottages in the Cotswolds. Here’s a selection of the best – just don’t forget to pack treats and lead.
